MASTER BAKER 2010 – ARTISTIC PIECE CATEGORY

March 2010 – An artistic piece dedicated to his wife

As a child, François Brandt wanted to be a pastry-maker, but he has won acclaim as a baker.

After working in various countries, he was finally drawn to settle in the Netherlands by the beautiful eyes of a girl. This made love the natural choice for the theme of his artistic piece. This universal theme that has always inspired and guided the world is the main thread of his work. Indeed, the 12 scenes that he produced represent the story of a couple experiencing major events in Dutch life through the course of the year.

"Developing the piece in the set time seemed to me a titanic task and I was full of doubt the evening before. I called my wife, who scolded and encouraged me. I was comforted and felt better. It was the moment when all my efforts would come to fruition."

For François, a strong defender of tradition in his profession, "Making a fine croissant or producing good bread is an art". Day after day, he wants to raise the status of bakery; "people eat to refuel without thinking about what they are eating, we must encourage them to take pleasure in eating quality products again". Love of his profession drives him to expand his knowledge constantly but, as he admits to us, "without the support of my wife and my two children, it would be impossible".
